BOARD PRESIDENT'S WELCOME - MAY 2025

Dear Colleagues,

As we reflect on the 2024–2025 school year, I’m filled with pride at the remarkable accomplishments seen across all 12 of our local districts. From innovative instruction to meaningful career preparation, our students and staff continue to rise to the occasion. Just to name a few highlights: Saginaw ISD staff were recognized with state and national awards, Great Lakes Bay Early College students earned over half a million dollars in scholarships, and Saginaw Career Complex has more than doubled its enrollment since 2019, thanks to the continued support of the CTE millage. We also proudly celebrated 35 students completing their educational journey at Millet Learning Center and Transitions Center.

Whether our students are headed to college, skilled trades, the military, or the workforce, they do so supported by a powerful network of educators, families, and community leaders. It takes all of us, working together in unison, to make these achievements possible. On behalf of the Saginaw ISD Board of Education, thank you for your continued commitment to the success of every learner in our region.

Warm regards,
Ruth Coppens
President, Saginaw ISD Board of Education

TURNAROUND ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS

Earlier this month, Saginaw ISD proudly hosted the 29th Annual Turnaround Achievement Awards, recognizing 40 students from across Saginaw County who have demonstrated exceptional growth, resilience, and determination in overcoming personal or academic challenges. The morning ceremony celebrated these students' inspiring journeys, highlighting their commitment to personal and academic improvement.

A special congratulations goes to Anthony Sewell II of Bridgeport-Spaulding High School, who was honored with the Saginaw Exchange Club’s $1,000 ACE (Accepting the Challenge of Excellence) Scholarship Award. Anthony's story exemplifies the transformative power of perseverance and the unwavering support of dedicated educators and families.

SUPERINTENDENT VIDEO NEWSLETTER

Dear Board Members,

As we close out the month of May, we want to take a moment to recognize the incredible educators who bring our mission to serve, innovate, and empower to life across Saginaw County. From early learning classrooms to career preparation programs, their impact is felt in every corner of our service area. During Teacher Appreciation Week earlier this month, we had the opportunity to celebrate a few of these remarkable individuals in our Superintendent Video Newsletter, each nominated by their building leaders for the difference they make every day.

Their stories are just a glimpse into the dedication we see across all 12 of our local districts. I invite you to watch this edition (view past editions here) of the Saginaw ISD Superintendent Newsletter video, where we reflect on leadership, collaboration, and what it means to Lead Forward together.

Thank you for your continued service and dedication to students and families across our county.

Yours in Education,
Dr. Jeffrey Collier
Superintendent, Saginaw ISD

ANNUAL SERVICE REPORTS

Each year, Saginaw ISD prepares a series of service reports to provide a transparent look at the work we do in partnership with districts across the county. This includes:

  • A Countywide Report showcasing overall service impact, including updates on the county’s Special Education and Career & Technical Education (CTE) millages.

  • Individual District Reports featuring the specific programs, services, and support each district receives from Saginaw ISD.

These reports cover areas such as early childhood education, special education, technology, business operations, and professional development. More than just data, they reflect the outcomes of our shared commitment to public education and the power of working together across district lines.

EDUCATION MATTERS WITH WNEM TV5

Saginaw ISD is proud to partner with WNEM TV5 for the Education Matters segment, a bi-monthly opportunity to highlight the power of public education across our region. While Saginaw ISD uses this platform to share updates from our internal departments and programs, we also gift back a segment each month to our local school districts, giving them the chance to spotlight their own stories of innovation, student success, and community impact.

ORANGE SPOT RECOGNITION

At Saginaw ISD, we believe in lifting one another up, and our Orange Spot Recognition program is one way we celebrate the positivity, dedication, and teamwork that shines throughout our organization to build a positive culture and climate. (Think of it as our version of Employee of the Month.)

Each month, staff members have the opportunity to nominate their coworkers by sharing moments of excellence, kindness, and going above and beyond. Nominations are submitted publicly through our Thrillshare platform, reinforcing a culture of gratitude and transparency. From the pool of nominations, a winner is selected at random and surprised with a bundle of Saginaw ISD goodies, including a custom mug made exclusively for Orange Spot recipients.

Why orange? The color draws inspiration from The Happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor, which teaches that positivity fuels success, not the other way around. Just as an orange post-it in the book symbolizes small moments of joy, our Orange Spot is a reminder that recognition can spark big impacts in school culture.

We’re proud to celebrate the incredible individuals who help make Saginaw ISD a place where people feel seen, appreciated, and empowered.

CELEBRATING LEADERSHIP, MEDIA RELEASES, AND DEPARTMENT/PROGRAM NEWSLETTERS

Saginaw ISD highlights the people and progress shaping education through our Celebrating Leadership articles and media releases. From leadership milestones to major announcements, we aim to keep our community informed and inspired. These stories reflect our commitment to transparency, recognition, and countywide connection.
